Frank Warren Projects INSANE PPV Buys for Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua

The Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua bout is one of the sport’s most eagerly anticipated events. The two heavyweights have been on course to face each other for years now and will finally meet in 2021. Ahead of the fight, promoter Frank Warren has given his initial PPV projections for the same.

The two fighters signed a two-fight deal in March. However, there are still several issues that the two parties need to iron out regarding the venue, date, and finance. However, Fury’s co-promoter Warren has predicted an insane number of PPV buys.

Warren spoke to TalkSPORT about the fight and expressed his concern about the timeline. However, he had no doubts about the success of the event when Fury and Joshua will eventually meet in the ring.

“I think it’ll be a massive event. I would be very disappointed if it did less than 2.5million.” 

This comment showed just how confident the promoter is regarding the monetary success of the bout. And given that the event will reportedly be priced at £40, it will fetch them upwards of £100 million.

Why does Frank Warren expect a record PPV sale?

If Warren’s projections come true, this would be among the top three highest PPV sales in the sport’s history. It would be behind only Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor.

Moreover, if Warren referred to only the UK, then it would smash the PPV record. Are these projections from Frank Warren possible? Can the fight match the numbers brought in by Mayweather?

Given the magnitude of the fight, it is bound to break many records when it eventually happens. Furthermore, the limited capacity of fans and neutral location means many have to tune in to the bout from their homes. Therefore, it has the potential to even overtake the aforementioned events.

However, it all depends on the pricing. If fans can watch the bout at a competitive price, it would certainly set many records. But a steep purchase price may mean that they may have to settle for lesser PPV buys than projected by Warren.
