Roger and Mirka Federer suffer setback in plan to move into £51m home near Lake Zurich as work on site stalls

ROGER FEDERER and wife Mirka have suffered a huge setback in their plan to build a £51MILLION mansion on the short of Lake Zurich.

The Swiss tennis legend, 39, has been in the process of building a stunning property in Rappersil-Jona.

The couple had even hoped to have moved in by the end of 2021.

However, reports in Switzerland claim construction has ground to a halt for a number of important reasons.

Federer and his building crew will first have to fix the contaminated land near the lakeshore.

Upon inspection, the site was found to have ‘scrap and rubble’ littered throughout.

For that reason alone, reports claim Federer’s ‘application was suspended’.

But Federer’s dream house has also been put on hold due to a series of campaigns from environmentalists.

Water protection organisation Aqua Viva was one of many groups to voice concerns.

And they have been successful in their appeal for a temporary construction freeze in another monster setback for the Federers.

The tennis legend will now be forced to submit a new planning application if they are to build the lakeside villa.

Federer has now changed construction firm and architects in a bid to get on top of the situation.

But there has been a positive update from Federer on the court.

Despite recently undergoing double knee surgery the Swiss ace – who turns 40 this summer – is hoping to be ‘100 per cent’ fit for Wimbledon.

Federer revealed: “From this standpoint, it’s about building up to being stronger, better, fitter, faster.

“So, I hope by Wimbledon I’ll be 100 per cent and from then on the season really starts for me.

“Everything until then, let’s see how it goes.

“I might surprise myself, which I’ve actually already done in practice the last three weeks. I was surprised how well it went.

“We all know matches are a different animal. I’ll take it day-by-day.

“I’m happy to back on the tour again. For me, everything starts hopefully with the grass.”
