Stranger Things season 4: Gaten Matarazzo teases a Dustin and Steve spin-off and we’re here for it

Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo has spoken about the possibility of a new Dustin Henderson and Steve Harrington spin-off show – and it’s something we need to see.

The actor teased the idea of a new series with co-star Joe Keery, but admitted that it might not stretch to a standalone series.

The pair’s bromance is a big part of the main Netflix show, and Gaten believes they could star in their own format.

‘I think a Dustin-Steve spinoff would be good if it were in a weird niche format. Like, they didn’t do a full show of it,’ Gaten told Entertainment Tonight.

He added: ‘Like a WandaVision type thing or a web series type thing where on YouTube, there’s weekly episodes of little hijinks they get into, like every now and again, like a skit show. That’d be great.’

The actor did however concede that a full series might be a step too far for the characters.

‘You kind of break that format….I don’t know if a Dustin and Steve full-series spinoff is sustainable. What are they going to do for a whole season, just them?’

Whatever they’d end up doing, we’d be on board.

Meanwhile, filming on the long-awaited season four of Stranger Things is back underway after being shut down last year due to the pandemic.

Gaten spoke about the tone of the new episodes, saying that fans can expect a more ‘mature’ tone.

The actor spoke about how the coronavirus pandemic changed the way the show’s creators worked on individual episodes.

He said: ‘I think what the goal for the boys, for Matt and Ross [Duffer], to do is to make sure that the bar is raised every single season, but it’s raised not too much to a point at which we couldn’t be able to exceed or match what we’ve done prior.’

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
