“We Wanted to Beat NXT”- AEW Superstar Chris Jericho Reacts to WWE NXT Moving to Tuesdays

The Wednesday Night Wars are officially over, and it was fun while it lasted. Despite the amazing matches and segments from both NXT and AEW Dynamite, AEW won the ratings war dominantly. One of the major reasons behind AEW’s victory in the viewership 63-10 and the demo battle by 74-1 is Chris Jericho.

From his reign as the AEW World Champion to his current feud with MJF, Jericho has been a constant highlight of AEW Dynamite. At 50, Jericho puts on performances better than wrestlers half his age.

Appearing on the Broken Skull Sessions with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Jericho talked about the end of Wednesday Night Wars and NXT’s move to Tuesdays.

“I know WWE NXT was watching our stuff during their show, but this was not a war that we were ever asking for, we were kind of thrust into it by proxy. The reason why we won it and won it so handily, is we never worried about what anybody else was doing, we just worried about our own show.”

Now that the war is over, he commented on leading AEW into a new era. “I think the best thing about being unopposed, is now people don’t have to decide. There’s been a lot of shows that we’ve done with some great segments and some great moments that might have been missed because people were switching back and forth.”

Jericho further added, “Of course we’re competitive. Yes, we wanted to beat NXT. Yes, we wanted to drive them screaming and yelling away from Wednesdays and we did that” (H/T Forbes)

Jericho and Mike Tyson fend off the Pinnacle

On Dynamite, Jericho faced Dax Harwood in what promised to be a chaotic match. Instead of a standard one-on-one match, we saw both the Inner Circle and the Pinnacle get involved in the match. The X-factor in this match was the special guest enforcer at ringside, ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.

After attacking Shawn Spears last week with piston-like punches, Tyson laid waste to Cash Wheeler. A huge right hook knocked out the former WWE superstar. The distraction allowed Jericho to hit Harwood with the Judas Effect for the win.

Jericho and the Inner Circle drew first blood in the build to Blood and Guts. On May 5th, the Inner Circle and the Pinnacle will meet in an environment similar to NXT’s War Games. Blood will be spilt and the action will be fast and furious on that night when Jericho leads his band of savages into battle against MJF’s warriors.
