Cameron Smith Reacts After Shooting Career-Low Round at RBC Heritage 2021

It was nothing but delight for 27-year-old Cameron Smith at the 2021 RBC Heritage. While the tournament is yet to conclude, Smith achieved a career-best performance on Thursday. The Australian thoroughly enjoyed his game at the Harbour Town Golf Links as he shot a career-best round to cruise atop the leaderboard.

Harbour Town is not an easy course to play, as the layout poses various challenges. However, Cameron Smith displayed tremendous accuracy through 18 holes as he swiftly took control of the leaderboard.

Cameron Smith is not reeling in overconfidence after shooting career-best round

The players put in their efforts for Round 1 at the 2021 RBC Heritage, but nobody did it quite like Cameron Smith. He began from the first tee and made consecutive birdies on the fourth, fifth, and sixth holes to boost his confidence.

Eventually, there was no stopping Cameron Smith. This was evident when he birdied the daunting 17th and the 18th holes to close out his first round. Smith ended with a score of 9-under 62, his lowest ever round on the PGA Tour.

“I don’t know, everything just came together. It was a great day on the green. I was hitting my irons really good. I had lots of good looks, and I just took advantage of them,” Smith reflected on his performance.

This is indeed an achievement to be hailed. We all know Smith is capable of displaying such a performance, but to do it at an event like the RBC Heritage where he does not have a good track record is just incredible.

“Yeah, I mean, the course is perfect. You really can’t fault it. The ball is running out a long way, so if you’re on the fairway, you’ve got a lot of opportunities into the green, and I think that’s maybe why we saw some low scores this afternoon,” Smith further explained.

Smith is eyeing a third PGA Tour title this week

Cameron Smith is the first-round leader and he is on top by a slim margin. While a one-stroke leader separates Smith and Stewart Cink, the former is confident of maintaining consistency at the 2021 RBC Heritage.

Smith expressed that he’s free of any stress which is helping him shoot with accuracy. The two-time PGA Tour winner is also a fan of the Harbour Town course and hopes to set a new career-best finish at the event.

“Yeah, this place really gets my creativity going into the greens. Especially there’s a couple of holes out there where you really have to shape it into the greens around trees, and if you’re in a bad spot off the tee, you just have to know where to miss it, especially with how firm the greens are out there,” Smith mentioned.

The first-round leader is happy with the conditions at Hilton Head Island. He’s never finished inside the Top 15 at the RBC Heritage before. Will he emerge as the winner this time?
