Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon-Boulash claps back over ‘class traitor’ comments: ‘Don’t get it twisted!’
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon-Boulash has clapped back after being called a ‘class traitor’ in response to a recent tweet, emphasising to their fans and followers to not ‘get it twisted’.
Earlier today, the Drag Race UK runner-up shared a picture on Twitter showing themselves dressed in a luxurious coat, hoops and shades, with the trans flag in the background.
In the caption, Bimini wrote: ‘I’m a landlady now,’ which many Drag Race UK and EastEnders fans would surely realise was in reference to the drag queen’s role as ‘Skat Slater’ in the BeastEnders acting challenge, which was in homage to the soap.
However, several people got the wrong end of the stick, assuming that Bimini was actually announcing they had become a landlady, resulting in some even calling the 27-year-old a ‘class traitor’.
Bimini responded to the derogatory remarks with a string of tweets, stating: ‘Oi you all need to calm down! This was a British reference about a pub landlady IE my role in Beastenders! I love that this is my first bit of controversy hahahaha.’
They added that ‘if a queer person were even ABLE to buy property in a world that wasn’t designed for us to thrive in that should be CELEBRATED and not told they have become a class traitor’.
‘I’m queer working class but if I bought a house it’s an F U to the CIS-TEM,’ Bimini wrote.
Explaining the reference in further detail for anyone who didn’t grasp the concept, the performer stated that ‘most of the time a landlady OF A PUB (which was my reference) doesn’t own the property she owns the license to the pub’.
‘I agree that landlords are a***holes and I’m paying ridiculous to live in London. Don’t get it twisted!’ they said.
After sharing a gif of themself in character as Skat Slater looking bemused, Bimini stressed that ‘everything I’ll ever do and try to do is for the people, this planet and to move forward as an entire consciousness’.
‘I’m sorry if you got my original tweet misconstrued. I love you all,’ they concluded.
Numerous people shared messages of support for Bimini, with one person tweeting: ‘People need to relax and stop looking for things to be negative about, anyone who knows one thing about you knows your values and that you also have a bloody sense of humor. Hope the trolls haven’t upset you x.’
‘Love YOU, you should not have to apologise about this x,’ another said.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
