‘Never Drank a Ferrari’ – Vettel and Lewis Hamilton on F1’s Champagne Replacement

Formula 1 recently announced that the podiums will no longer sport champagnes as a mark of celebration for the drivers. Instead, it will be sparkling wine from the Italian makers, Ferrari Trento. With the switch set to take place from the upcoming race weekend, neither Sebastian Vettel nor Lewis Hamilton is keen on giving it a taste.

The last time F1 used sparkling wine instead of champagne was back in 2016 when the sport tied up with Chandon. However, the duo’s relationship lasted only until the mid-part of 2017, as Carbon replaced the French winery, bringing back the classic champagne celebrations to the podium.

What did Sebastian Vettel say?

During the Emilia-Romagna GP press conference, Vettel was asked to weigh in on the new sparkling wine, which also sports the same name as his former F1 team- Ferrari.

During the process, the German also opened up on whether he holds an opportunity to taste the wine over this weekend.

I haven’t heard. So, I don’t know. I’ve driven Ferraris, but I didn’t Ferrari. So, I don’t know. Obviously, at this stage, we’re a bit further away,” he said.

Maybe with rain on Sunday, we’re getting a bit closer. But I’m sure I can ask Lewis on Monday. He’s a bit closer to the podium.”

Weather predictions seem to be quite erratic at the moment over Friday and Saturday. But when it comes to Sunday, rains seem to be imminent.

Hence, with an already tricky circuit along with gravel traps around, the upcoming race could be a treat to watch for the entire F1 fandom. But the biggest question is, who is going to fight their way to the top?

I won’t drink it: Lewis Hamilton

While Vettel showed some interest in the newly introduced Ferrari wine, Hamilton downplayed his excitement on the matter. He claimed that he is not a great fan of sparkling wine, as he hates bubbles.

I don’t like bubbles. So, I won’t drink it,” the Briton said.

But the chances of Hamilton getting a spray of the wine look pretty bright at the moment. The Briton has mastered the wet conditions, with last year’s Turkish GP being the primary example.

Hence, with a wet race on the cards, how far is Hamilton going to succeed this time around? Will he yet again prove to be the greatest driver on the wets? Only time will tell.
