Piers Morgan has led tributes to Helen McCrory, as news of her death emerged.

The actress, who appeared in Harry Potter and Peaky Blinders, died aged 52 – with husband Damian Lewis confirming the news.

In a heartfelt statement, he explained that she died following ‘an heroic battle with cancer’.

Fans and famous faces rushed to offer their condolences after his post, with Piers Morgan among them.

Sharing Damian’s post on Twitter, the former Good Morning Britain host penned: ‘What shocking and incredibly sad news. RIP Helen.’

Noel Clarke offered: ‘RIP #HelenMcCrory you were the best and always lovely to me. It was a pleasure to work with you. Love ya.

‘Blessings to Damian and the family.’

Angela Griffin replied: ‘News of Helen McCrory passing has just floored me. 

‘My thoughts with all of her friends and family. What a women, what an actor. Such a loss.’

Beverley Knight commented: ‘Oh god no. An incredible actress. This is desperately sad. 

‘I feel for her husband @lewis_damian and family. Sincere condolences.’

Helen’s death was confirmed by Damian, who said ‘how lucky’ they were to have had her in their lives.

The Homeland star posted: ‘I’m heartbroken to announce that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family.

‘She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives.

‘She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you.’
