Sarah Jessica Parker has thrown doubt on whether John Corbett is actually returning for the Sex and the City revival, and we’re getting very confused.

John, 59, announced that he would be playing Carrie Bradshaw’s ex Aidan Shaw in the 10-episode limited series And Just Like That…, telling Page Six: ‘I’m going to do the show. I think I might be in quite a few.’

While the news delighted members of Team Aidan, SJP herself has seemingly dismissed John’s claims in a comment on Instagram.

The account @everyoutfitonsatc celebrated the news, writing: ‘On this momentous day, we want to extend our deepest congratulations to all of the Aidan stans out there. We may not agree with you (as we have a serious aversion to turquoise jewellery) but we admire your passion nonetheless. YOU did this!’

Sarah, 56, commented underneath: ‘I’m not saying one way or another whether our beloved Mr Corbett’s interview deals in facts or fiction but the response is amazing to read… x’

Fans were baffled, with one person writing: ‘What does this even mean’ and another joking: ‘Carrie is playing with out hearts the way she did Aidan’s.’

Aidan first appeared in season three of Sex and the City and began a relationship with Carrie, which ended after she admitted she had been cheating on him with Big.

They got back together after six months and Aidan proposed, but they later split, due to Aidan still not fully trusting Carrie after her affair and Carrie feeling suffocated.

We later found out that Aidan had married a woman named Kathy and they had three sons together, when Carrie ran into her ex at a market in Abu Dhabi in the critically mauled Sex and the City 2.

The exes had dinner and shared a kiss, but Big forgave Carrie for the error and got her a black diamond ring to remind her that she was married (pretty passive-aggressive if you ask us).

So far, it has been properly confirmed that Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon will be back to play Carrie, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes in And Just Like That…

David Eigenberg, who plays Miranda’s husband Steve, said he was ‘pretty sure’ he’d be in the revival, while Chris Noth, who plays Mr Big, was previously reported not to be returning.

However, the actor has since suggested on social media that ‘everything changes—including announcements in the rags’.

One person definitely not appearing in the series is Kim Cattrall, who will not be returning to play Samantha Jones, with HBO’s president of programming Casey Bloys saying: ‘Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.’

The release date for And Just Like That… has yet to be announced.
