To make your day even better, follow my tips to save on the journey, while keeping the kids amused
’APPY DAYS: Parents can download free apps that will keep youngsters occupied.
Road Trip Travel Games includes 11 different games, including “spot it” and memory word games.
Adults can keep track of the scores, which makes it more interactive and fun.
It is a free and easy way to pass a few hours.
EAT CHEAP: Make sure to bring your own water bottles in the car, as well as snacks to stave off any munchies as you travel.
Service stations are expensive places to shop, so it makes sense to keep a snack stash.
Plus it will take the edge off hunger pangs, so you won’t need to fork out for as much food at the theme park.
PLAY TRAY: Bring your kids’ crayons, encourage them to get crafty and grab a “car play tray”.
I like Amazon’s Lenbest travel tray, as it’s just £16.99 and goes over laps, with a drinks holder and a surface to scribble on.
But I found a similar one on eBay for just £3.99, with free postage. So get hunting.
FUEL FOR LESS: Saving on your petrol is key to avoiding too many stops and too much spending.
I bang on about petrolprices.co.uk, which tells you where the cheapest petrol is in your area, because it really can add up to a big saving if you fuel up early for less.
Also, when you are on your travels I usually find it can help with filling up just off the motorway, which is nearly always cheaper.
And remember that driving at a steady speed lowers your fuel consumption.
