Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Claims ‘Defeat Helps You More Than Success’

Andy Reid-coached Kansas City Chiefs started their 2020 NFL campaign with a chip on their shoulder. Patrick Mahomes and Co. wreaked havoc on defenses across the league, marching their way to the AFC West crown with a 14-2 record.

The defending champions were determined to repeat their title run from the year before. Stars like Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill, spoke about their dream of building a winning dynasty in Missouri. They were on course to do so as well after beating Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.

But Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers had other plans. Under the tutelage of Bruce Arians, the Bucs sealed a historic 31-9 win over the Chiefs to lift the Super Bowl LV title.

Patrick Mahomes eager to bounce back from Super Bowl LV heartbreak

Despite a humbling loss at the Raymond James Stadium earlier this year, Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes is optimistic ahead of the 2021 NFL season.

He said, “People see me on the field playing and winning a lot of football games, and [they see] the contract and the different businesses that I work with, and they think that everything I’m doing is kind of just working out. I think defeat helps you more than success. I just do whatever I can to be better and learn from the mistakes.”

“When you lose on a football field or if you invest in a company that doesn’t work out, or whatever it is, I think that helps you out more because it drives you to learn from your mistakes. It drives you to be better the next time. I just continue to try to make myself better. I think that’s been the biggest thing that I’ve done my entire life: No matter the success or the failure that I have the previous season, I just try to continue to make myself better every single day,” Mahomes said earlier this week.

The 25-year old finished the 2020 NFL season with 4,800+ passing yards and 40+ passing TDs (including post-season). He signed a massive 10-year extension with the Chiefs last year which will see him earn north of $477 million. Coach Reid and GM Brett Veach have strengthened the offensive line this summer with some key free-agent signings.

They will look to further add some firepower in the 2021 NFL Draft. But it would be unwise to count the Chiefs as ‘underdogs’ as they start the season with one thing on their mind, vengeance.
