“I Hate It” – Eddie Hearn Reacts to Evander Holyfield’s Return

Eddie Hearn, the Matchroom kingpin, is one of the few promoters who brought YouTube boxing and exhibition bouts into the limelight. However, he doesn’t seem to like the idea of Evander Holyfield’s return to action.

Social networking service Triller has recently dived into the boxing business and has alarmed the combat world with its unique features. Blending entertainment and sports, they already have a massive event in Jake Paul vs Ben Askren on April 17. Meanwhile, they have also announced Evander Holyfield’s return against Kevin McBride on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr. in June.

Although Eddie Hearn didn’t seem vexed with Jake Paul’s fight, he clearly expressed his dissent over Holyfield’s bout. The Brit promoter connected with Boxing Social and said, “I hate it. When you talk about what Triller did, even Jake Paul against Ben Askren, no problem with it.”

He added, “It’s entertainment. But I don’t like the old guys fighting. When you talk about having difficulties for commissions. Sometimes commission would turn down a guy, I don’t know 13-1 against a guy who is 4-9.”

The 4x heavyweight champion Holyfield isn’t the only one to have received the heat. Eddie Hearn further lashed at several other veteran champions who will lace up the gloves once more.

Eddie Hearn bashes Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, and More

A few days back, Hearn had a minor tussle with Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya, While Hearn revealed his desire to monopolize the business of boxing, De La Hoya rejected the idea on social media. In response, Eddie Hearn claimed to have no competition with Golden Boy, as he billed Matchroom to be significantly superior.

Now, as the four-division champion Oscar De La Hoya announced his return to the ring, Hearn bashed him once again.

“Why is Mike Tyson fighting? Why is Evander Holyfield fighting? Why is Oscar De La Hoy fighting, because they need the money or they want the money? One of the two, let’s be honest. It’s not to come back and try and win another world title,” said Hearn.

Nevertheless, exhibition fights have already grabbed attention and will not fade away anytime soon. What do you make of Hearn’s comments?
