‘I Think it’s Stupid’- Ben Askren’s Friend Scoffs at Betting Odds Being in Favor of Jake Paul

Ben Askren’s fight against Jake Paul is one of the biggest fights of 2021. It is a fight between two controversial figures. One for his blatantly undesirable personality, while the other for the unlucky ending to his career. However, the bookmakers have other thoughts and have put the controversial YouTuber as the betting favorite.

This has turned heads around the MMA community. It’s not like Askren is the greatest boxer in the world, but he has fought opponents of a much higher caliber than Paul.

Jake Paul has won his 3 boxing fights (One amateur and two professional), but it was against increasingly subpar opponents who were undersized in comparison to him.

Askren’s friend and a man that holds multiple jobs around his camp, Mike Rhodes, gave us an insight into how things were inside the Askren camp. In an interview with theScore, Rhodes revealed how Askren roped him in for the fight.

“Ben said, ‘Figure out what you have to do, and get it done.’ And I’m like, ‘OK’,” Rhodes said. “And I just kind of took care of things on my end, and I’ve been driving up to Milwaukee and traveling all over with him for the last two and a half months getting ready for the fight.”

He also talked about the betting odds in the fight and said that they were stupid. I think it’s stupid,” Rhodes said. “That’d be like someone saying, ‘You know what, I know this guy over here has trained and fought his whole life, but I saw this dude fight two bar fights, and now I think he can beat him.’ That just doesn’t make sense,” he concluded.

Rhodes mentioned how he does multiple jobs around the camp, like being his Head Coach, sparring partner, and even a mediocre spectator at times. He has become the jack of all trades and has helped Askren out massively.

Additionally, he also revealed that Askren looked good in the training camp and was looking good with his movement. Askren seems ready for this fight. His mental fortitude is similar to that of a monk, and we’ll see how it translates into the fight.
