Singer-songwriter Angel Olsen has come out as gay, as she introduced her new partner.

The 34-year-old took to Instagram to announce the news with her followers, sharing a series of snaps of her girlfriend.

‘My beau, I’m gay,’ she simply captioned the post.

She later followed up the post with a selfie shared to her Instagram Stories, as she happily beamed for the camera.

‘I’m gay!!!!!!!!!!’ she wrote.

Many fans later took to the comments to support Angel, with one writing: ‘So happy for you. Didn’t think I could love you more, but I was wrong.’

‘CONGRATS ON FINDING LOVE,’ another added.

An Instagram user said: ‘Glad you’re happy and living your truth. Love your music.’

Angel had previously told The New York Times Magazine in 2019 that she was straight ‘for now, until further notice’.

She had also discussed her sexuality during a chat with The Cut that same year, revealing she had considered both living alone with cats and giving up music to become a stay-at-home mum.

The singer told the publication: ‘It was like… what if I’m gay… no, I’m not gay… maybe I just hate men… or I need to get married soon and have kids… or I don’t know if marriage is in the cards and if I have a kid maybe I’ll just have it by myself?’

In the meantime, Angel is gearing up for the release of her upcoming boxset Song Of The Lark And Other Far Memories, comprising of her two most recents albums, All Mirrors and New Mess, alongside a new record, Far Memory, which includes remixes and b-sides on its tracklisting.

The boxset also comes with a 300-page booklet consisting of unseen photos and diary entries from the recording sessions of the albums. Only 3,000 copies will be available for sale.

She said of the new release: ‘It feels like a part of my writing has come back from the past, and another part of it was waiting to exist.’
