“Unfollowed All Tennis Players”: Andy Murray Reflects on Missing Australian Open 2021
Former World No. 1 Andy Murray is one of the most successful players in British history. When he won the US Open in 2012, he lifted the spirits of the people belonging to Great Britain. After 76 years, a player belonging to the region had lifted a Grand Slam singles title.
Recently, Andy Murray reflected on his absence from the Australian Open 2021. Due to the mandatory 14-day quarantine period, he was unable to complete the duration course after being hit by the coronavirus. He did take some harsh measures to avoid feeling left out from the rest of his rivals.
The 33-year-old player was understandably dejected for having missed the first Grand Slam event of the season. In order to divert his attention from all the action in Melbourne, he unfollowed tennis players from his social media profiles.
The three-time Grand Slam champion stated, “I didn’t watch much at all. I unfollowed all the tennis players and stuff that I follow on social media because I just didn’t want to see everyone practicing and playing matches and having a good time over there because I wanted to be there myself honestly. So I tried to distance myself from it.”

Speaking of Andy and tennis, he has been inconsistent in featuring at tennis tournaments. Due to his hip injury, he was forced to take tough decisions in recent years. From 2018 onwards, he has played in only four Grand Slam events.
After receiving a wildcard at the Australian Open this year, the British star was thrilled about the prospect of competing in Melbourne only to fall victim to the COVID-19 virus, which quashed his chances of boarding his flight to Australia.
However, Andy competed at events held in Italy and France. The last tournament he featured in was the ATP Rotterdam Open. He lost in the Round of 16 matches against Russian talent Andrey Rublev.
