Webb Simpson Sets New Records With Career-Best Performance at RBC Heritage 2021

Defending champion Webb Simpson displayed a strong performance in Round 3 of RBC Heritage 2020. The 35-year-old shot a 7-under 64 and matched his career-low score at Harbour Town, which he initially achieved in 2020. However, this is not all the records that Simpson set with his Saturday performance at RBC Heritage.

Webb Simpson began his title defense at Harbour Town with an even-par 71, but it did not help in getting a strong message to the field. The seven-time PGA Tour winner knew he had to improve his game in order to make a strong contention and subsequently recorded a 3-under 68 in Round 2.

However, none of that would come close to what Simpson managed on a sunny Saturday at Harbour Town. Simpson’s third-round performance helped him gain 38 places on the leaderboard and he’s temporarily second behind Stewart Cink.

Webb Simpson has the most low-scoring rounds on the PGA Tour since 2009

Webb Simpson turned pro in 2008 and has seen a lot of ups and downs in his career. However, he’s endured them all and has been performing at an elite level over the years. Here’s a fact that would prove as a testament to his consistency.

Since the 2009 PGA Tour season, no player has recorded more rounds of 64 or better than Webb Simpson. With this third round display at RBC Heritage 2021, Simpson brought up his 46th career round where he finished with a score of 64 or lower!

But that’s not all. Webb Simpson also etched his name in RBC Heritage books with his 7-under 64 in Round 3. This was his sixth career round at Harbour Town with 65 or better, the most of player in the last ten years.

These are indeed unique achievements for Webb Simpson. He’s currently focused on defending his crown at the RBC Heritage, but he’d have to put in a monumental effort on Sunday. Stewart Cink is currently sitting on a comfortable lead, and the other players have to be at their absolute best to obtain a chance of overtaking him.

Only three players (Payne Stewart, Davis Love III, and Boo Weekley), have won the Heritage tournament in back-to-back fashion since its inception in 1969. The odds are certainly stacked against Simpson, but can he defy them by winning the tournament in 2021?
