Amber Heard teases Aquaman return with throwback snap amid legal battle with Johnny Depp
Amber Heard has teased that she will reprise her role in the second film in the Aquaman franchise.
She tantalised fans when she posted a photo of her reading a book on the set of the first movie to Instagram and Twitter.
The actress captioned the photo: ‘Before Aquaman took the last pages out of this book #gettingakindleforaquaman2 @aquamanmovie.’
Aquaman is based on DC comics of the same name, where a half-human, half-Atlantean goes on a quest to retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and protect the water world. Amber plays Mera, queen of the sea and wife of Aquaman.
The caption is a long-running joke as when she was promoting the first Aquaman movie in 2018, she told the presenters on Good Morning America that leading man Jason Momoa ‘adopted this method of ripping out the pages of my book so I would pay attention to him. It would drive me crazy because I’d have 30 pages left and it would be gone.’
While she has limited comments on her Instagram account, Twitter uses expressed their excitement on her post.
‘Hell yeah!! The queen’s coming back!’ One fan wrote.
‘We will be watching opening day!’ Another person commented.
Amber’s social media posts come amid her years-long legal battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp in which they have denied each other’s allegations of domestic violence.
Previously, the 34-year-old contested rumours that she had been fired from the franchise and alleged that there were ‘paid campaigns’ to have her fired.
‘Rumours and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate [casting decisions] because they have no basis in reality,’ she told Entertainment Weekly in November.
In 2018, she claimed to have received death threats and lost work after details of the case against Johnny became public. The former spouses have been waging a legal battle through various lawsuits since she filed for divorce in May 2016.
There has been yet another delay in their next trial, so they will now be facing each other in court from April 11, 2022. It is expected to last about two weeks.
