‘Been Nervous’ – Stewart Cink Feels the Pressure Ahead of the Final Round at RBC Heritage 2021

Stewart Cink will have the whole world watching when he tries to defend his five-stroke lead at RBC Heritage on Sunday. One more good round and Cink be a champion at Harbour Town for the third time in his career, but it’s just not that straightforward, is it? Following his Round 3 performance, the veteran golfer detailed the pressure of carrying a 54-hole lead. 

All the focus would be on the leader heading into the final round of a golf tournament. Likewise, Stewart Cink would be enjoying his late-career-renaissance as he holds the 54-hole lead at a PGA Tour event for the first time since 2008! 

Cink won the 2008 Travelers Championship, which was also the last tournament in which he entered the final round as a leader. So safe to say that the odds are in favor of the 47-year-old ahead of Round 4. 

Stewart Cink opens up on the pressure of defending a lead in the final round

Stewart Cink is one of the most experienced campaigners on the Tour at the moment. In fact, his final round RBC Heritage pair Collin Morikawa was born in 1997, the year Cink won his first PGA Tour title!

Experience certainly plays a huge part in situations like these. Cink shot multiple rounds of 7-under 63 in the first two days, but only made a 2-under 69 on Saturday. While the lead is still five strokes, Stewart Cink would be lying if he said he doesn’t feel the pressure. 

“It’s just what you have to expect and you have to prepare for it and you have to embrace that. If you try to ignore those feelings or act like they’re not there, it’s going to consume you,” Cink mentioned. 

“I’ve been there before. I’ve certainly been nervous and thrown up on myself and I’ve also played great in that situation. You know, I think it’s a lot better to embrace it and enjoy it and feel the tingle as opposed to trying to act like it’s not there,” he added. 

One can assume that Stewart Cink faced the pressure as early as Round 3. He made only three birdies on Saturday as his putting game seemed to be off. However, a solid performance on Sunday will earn him a well-deserved title at Harbour Town.
