Caroline Wozniacki, Martina Navratilova and Others Predict Naomi Osaka To End the Year As the World No. 1 Player

Japanese tennis sensation Naomi Osaka has proven to be an extraordinary athlete. In addition to winning several trophies, she endorses some of the biggest companies in the world. Though she is just 23, many young aspirants of the sport look up to her.

Recently, legends such as Chris Evert, former multi-Grand Slam champion Martina Navratilova, former Swiss superstar Martina Hingis, and recently retired Caroline Wozniacki praised Naomi Osaka on her current form. They voiced their opinion on which player would end the year as World No. 1 in the women’s game.

Legends came to a mutual agreement and picked Naomi Osaka

Amongst all the four former supremely talented names, it was Hingis who mentioned Ashleigh Barty, whereas the other three highlighted Naomi Osaka as their choice to end the year on the top spot. Therefore, they came to a mutual agreement and supported the Japanese athlete to claim the number one spot, which she held in early 2019.

It’s been over a year since the Australian player has been the best athlete in the women’s game. After winning the Australian Open this season, Osaka climbed a spot in the rankings and replaced Simona Halep as the second-best player in the world.

The four former superstars have incredible honors associated with their names

Speaking about the four former greats of tennis, Chris Evert won 18 Grand Slam singles titles. Navratilova won a staggering 59 Grand Slam titles, covering all categories. Swiss ace Hingis won five Grand Slam titles in her career, and Wozniacki won the Australian Open in 2018. All these athletes have contributed to the sport in their own special ways.

Coming back to Naomi, she began her season at the exhibition event in Adelaide, ‘A Day at the Drive’. Later, she won her fourth Grand Slam title in Melbourne. Unfortunately, her 23-match winning streak came to an end in Miami.

With the focus shifted towards the clay-court events, it will be interesting to see how the Japanese player performs in the upcoming events, including the French Open.
