After losing the opening set, Leylah fought back and won the match 3-6 6-3 6-4. Noticing her amazing effort was none other than her compatriot, Eugenie Bouchard. Coming to Leylah, she got her breakthrough at the Grand Slam stage at the 2020 Australian Open. After proceeding from the qualifying rounds, she lost in the first round of the main draw. But good times followed as she registered the biggest win of her career after the Major, beating former World No. 4 Belinda Bencic at the Fed Cup qualifiers.

She also ended up beating former Grand Slam winner Sloane Stephens at the Monterrey Open.
