Patrick Mouratoglou’s Pupil Linda Fruhvirtova Becomes Youngest Since Coco Gauff To Create History on WTA Tour

All of 15, Linda Fruhvirtova is already starting to make waves in the big league. The hugely promising Czech tennis player has become the youngest since American teen sensation Coco Gauff to reach the quarter-finals of the ongoing WTA claycourt event at Charleston, US.

In only her second appearance at the main draw of a women’s Tour event since the 2020 Prague Open, the teen showed incredible agility and match awareness to 19-year-old American.

A clip of the winning point shows Fruhvirtova pushing her opponent deeper into the baseline by playing cute angles before unleashing a furious forehand cross court to close out the match.

The eventual scoreline read 6-4, 6-2 in her favor.

The 15-year-old had received a wildcard for the qualifiers for this year’s Miami Open but was beaten by Serbian Nina Stojanovic in the first round. She received a wildcard for the main draw at the Charleston event.

Fruhvirtova achieved her career-high singles ranking of 499 on April 12 this year and is the youngest currently to be placed inside the Top 500 of the WTA. She also achieved her highest doubles ranking, so far, of 653 back in February this year.

The Czech got her to her highest ranking of 10 at the junior level on January 20 last year. She has won both singles and doubles events at the Futures level and currently trains at Serena Williams’s longtime coach Patrick Mouratoglou’s academy in France.

Fruhvirtova also trained at the Chris Evert Academy in January this year. She won two titles and also had as many runners-up finishes in singles in the juniors circuit.

Though she clinched both her junior championships on hardcourt, her run to the last-eight of the ongoing event suggests that she is equally adept on the soil.
