The Syndicate creator Kay Mellor has confirmed that the show will return for a fifth series.

Each run of the show focuses on a different group of players who win the lottery. It first arrived on the BBC in 2012.

The latest instalment tells the story of a group of kennel workers who hit the jackpot together – only for their newsagent to appear to steal their winnings.

It’s the first run of the series in six years, but fans can expect more episodes in future.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Kay revealed that she is already working on ideas for the plot of an upcoming fifth series.

She said: ‘It took six years for the current series to come
to screen.

‘But there’s something cooking. The ingredients are there, so it’s there. But
it’s not cooked up yet.’

In the new season which stars Line of Duty’s Neil Morrissey, a group win an unbelievable £27million in the lottery after joining forces, but are told they only won a few hundred.

Their local shop owner then jets off seemingly with their winnings in tow, travelling from Yorkshire to Monaco to no doubt make the most of his stolen millions.

The cast also csees Taj Atwal play Roxy, while Jake is played by Kieran Urquhart, Katherine Rose Morley plays Keeley, Liberty Hobb stars as Gemma, and Colette is played by Inbetweeners alum, Emily Head.

Kym Marsh plays Keeley’s mum Donna, who is struggling to make ends meet for her family, and Gaynor Faye plays Frank’s fiancee.

The series was notable for featuring YouTuber and Strictly star Joe Sugg, who made his first TV acting appearance in the drama with an impressive northern accent.

The Syndicate is available to watch on BBC iPlayer
