Wizards’ Russell Westbrook Climbs Over Chicago Bulls’ Michael Jordan in a 32-YO League Record

The Wizards are having a ball since the last fortnight. They’ve won six of their last seven games, and some of those victories have come against really decent sides. One commonality in all these victories has been Russell Westbrook’s prolific scoring.

Russ, after the All-Star Game 2021, has been an unearthly force. Even with the Wizards sitting out of the Top 10 in the EC standings, the man is not letting his guards down. With this recent turnaround for the Wizards, the stars of Beastbrook have shined brighter than ever.

Russell Westbrook is making it all count under his name

The 9x NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook is taking gigantic leaps into inflating his already huge career numbers. He was on an insane six-game triple-double streak before the game against the Pelicans. In the Wizards’ OT win over Zion Williamson’s side, Russ was just one assist short of reaching that mark. Anyway, nothing that could stop him as he dropped a triple-double in the 121-100 win over the Pistons.

With that triple-double, he broke Michael Jordan’s 32-YO record of enjoying seven such nights in April. Russ, now with eight triple-doubles in the last 10 games, has also inched closer to breaking the all-time record of Oscar Robertson.

Now, the Wizards are yet to play seven more games in the running month. So it’s safe to suggest Russ might stretch his numbers to at least 10 triple-doubles this month, given his inhuman pace. The future might see Luka Doncic chasing this record, but Russ is surely the current king.

Can the Wizards make it to the playoffs?

With Russell Westbrook scoring almost close to how he did during his MVP year, the Wizards have a chance. Although he has been a mediocre show in terms of defense, his impact on the team is quite uplifting. On the other hand, Bradley Beal is averaging a career-high 31 points with a capability to single-handedly win games for the franchise.

Forward Rui Hachimura is another plus for the team’s offense, while the 6-ft point guard in Ish Smith has also been impressive from the bench. That they could stop the league topping Jazz and the dangerous Warriors, their play-in chances are high. However, one can expect a tough competition between the Raptors, the Bulls, and the Wizards for that unstable #10 position in the coming weeks.
