Call Of Duty 2021 will release for Xbox One and PS4 claims leaker
A noted insider says that this year’s Call Of Duty game will still release for last gen consoles, as well as the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Despite the current Call Of Duty games continuing to be highly profitable for Activision, the company already made it clear it has no intention of skipping 2021 without a brand new one.
While it has yet to be officially announced, multiple sources claim that the game will return to a Second World War setting and that it’s probably titled WW2: Vanguard.
Now, insider Tom Henderson is saying that, while it will obviously release for current gen systems, Activision is still releasing it for last gen consoles as well. He doesn’t directly name them, but it’s safe to assume that he’s referring to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One – and not the Nintendo Switch.
Henderson states that, due to it being a cross-gen title, the new game will be ‘held back’ by the older consoles, implying it won’t take full advantage of the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5’s power and abilities.
This comes only a few days after he theorised that, despite his own previous claims, Battlefield 6 (or, as it’s reportedly called, Battlefield) would be exclusive to current gen systems. He also speculates that the new Battlefield will launch on Xbox Game Pass from day one, to help drive up player numbers.
Henderson has frequently leaked Battlefield information in the past and is considered to be a reliable source, especially after he was suspended from Twitter, apparently at the behest of EA.
It does make perfect sense for Activision to continue releasing Call Of Duty games for last gen systems, especially given the poor availability of the new consoles and the fact that the game’s mainstream audience will likely upgrade to new hardware more slowly than other gamers.
Henderson also mentions that Activision will take the same approach with Infinity Ward’s next game. Due to how Activision rotates through its Call Of Duty studios, and the reports that Sledgehammer is making Vanguard, Infinity Ward’s next Call Of Duty is suspected to arrive in 2022.
Call Of Duty 2021 is in development and scheduled to launch this year.
