“It’s Cinematic Gold”- WWE Legend Trish Stratus Backs the Idea of Inter Gender Wrestling Matches
WWE has long held a strict policy against inter-gender matches and has kept the clash of the two sexes restricted to mixed-tag team matches and the possibilities of more men vs women fight in WWE seemed slim.
However, in recent times, WWE seems to have refreshed that policy by including more such matches than before. Although subtle placed to match the storyline, WWE has made space to accommodate such fights, and fans seem to enjoy the way they pan out.
WWE legend Trish Stratus seems to agree with this and explained how Mixed matches do have a place in the future of WWE.
“I’m a huge fan of it,” Trish admitted, speaking on Busted Open Radio. “I feel that’s a big part of me getting over as a character; fans getting able to see the females and males integrated together.”
“To me, it wasn’t male and female, it was ‘this character’ and ‘this character’ being able to mix it up. We had a huge roster of amazing characters so when you can mix it up, it’s really cool,” said the former WWE Women’s Champion. “There’s great storytelling that can happen when you have a big man and the girl. There were so many priceless spots. It’s cinematic gold, can tell a great story, and can develop characters and storylines.”
WWE has made significant progress with Alexa Bliss in this field
WWE seems to be grasping this concept and has opened up the road to such matches. We did see a glimpse of it in Sasha Banks vs Reginald and then further on with Alexa Bliss vs Randy Orton. Although these were one-offs, the promotion really explored the idea in the months leading up to WrestleMania 37. For all we know, Trish Stratus could be on to something.
In the absence of The Fiend, the feud was primarily between Randy Orton and Alexa Bliss and now, it will be between the latter and The Fiend. Bliss is the spear through which WWE merges the two divisions, and we may see a lot more mixed Wrestling matches in the future.
Fans want a dream Randy Orton vs Charlotte Flair match, and while that may not happen, we can get some gold content with the character interactions. Much like Chyna revolutionized the women’s division by defeating Jeff Jarrett to win the Intercontinental Championship, we can see the barriers broken and find a balance between male and female Superstars as characters in WWE.
