‘Right Now There’s No Opponent for Oscar De La Hoya’- Peter Kahn on Rumors of Eddie Alvarez Fighting ‘The Golden Boy’

A former multi-weight World Champion in Oscar De La Hoya will return to the ring after over 18 years on the sidelines. The ‘Golden Boy’ agreed to a deal to fight on Triller on July 3rd. However, he is still in the hunt for an opponent to stage his comeback.

Ever since De La Hoya announced his return to the ring, he claimed he would face a big-name UFC champion. The latest name to make the rounds was former Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez. Now Triller’s Chief Boxing Officer, Peter Kahn, has given an update on those rumors.

Kahn spoke on the AK & Barak show, which SiriusXM posted on their social media handle. When asked about the rumors, Kahn said, “You know, it’s interesting. I can tell you that Oscar De La Hoya is going to be on Triller.

“But I’m not sure that Eddie Alvarez is going to be the opponent for that fight.”

The Chief Boxing Officer then addressed Alvarez’s claims. “I saw that Eddie Alvarez had expressed that he was in negotiations, but right now there’s no opponent, no opponent for Oscar De La Hoya.”

This comment from Kahn confirmed that there is no opponent yet. However, he did not shut down the Alvarez-De La Hoya fight entirely.

Who else can Oscar De La Hoya face?

The former champion has shared an update on his training and looks to be in incredible shape. Despite this, it will be difficult for De La Hoya to find an opponent. So who are the other options for the former World Champion?

The ‘Golden Boy’ has advocated for a bout against Gennady Golovkin. However, the Kazakh is a World Champion and has a belt to defend against challengers. Thus, it would make no sense for him to fight De La Hoya.

A rematch against his old foe, Floyd Mayweather, is unlikely since Mayweather does not want to fight professional fights and is only interested in exhibitions.

While Anderson Silva and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who were the other potential opponents have since agreed to strap up the 10oz gloves to take on each other.

Thus, Alvarez appears to be the most likely opponent for De La Hoya. Moreover, he also fits the bill as a former UFC Champion. Only time will tell if Alvarez was serious about his claims.
