Robert Whittaker Wants a ‘Sold-Out’ Stadium for a Rematch Against Israel Adesanya

Robert Whittaker has cemented his place as the undisputed number one contender to Israel Adesanya’s throne with his performance against Kelvin Gastelum. The former champion lost his belt to ‘The Last Style Bender’ in front of a record-breaking crowd in attendance at UFC 243. He has since won three straight fights to set up a rematch against Adesanya.

During his reign as a champion, ‘The Reaper’ was not as active as he would have hoped to be. The Australian fighter suffered from injuries that kept him out of competition.

However, 2020 was a good year for ‘Bobby Knuckles’ as he completed multiple times during the year and has continued that momentum by kicking off 2021 with an impressive win just four months in.

Robert Whittaker vs Israel Adesanya 2 to be held in Australia or New Zealand?

After an empathic win, Whittaker shared his thoughts on what is next for him after three consecutive wins.

He said, “My next fight is for a title. I gotta go home, I gotta lick my boo-boos. I think the borders are going to be better in Sydney around September, October or even New Zealand is closer than Sydney for border openings. Think we can get a sold-out stadium down there which is great for our sort of community down there, MMA down there as a whole, and the UFC down there as a whole.”

The common consensus was that after his win against Jared Cannonier, Whittaker would get a rematch for his title. However, ‘The Reaper’ stated that he was in no hurry to get a title fight which allowed the UFC to set up a super fight between Jan and Adesanya for the light heavyweight belt.

After an unsuccessful attempt at capturing the 205-pound belt, Adesanya will be looking at defending his throne at 185-pounds once again. In the interview, ‘The Reaper’ stated that there were some injuries that he had to nurse and take care of before he could step back into the ring again. Fans will be hoping that the rematch between the two men takes place either in Australia or New Zealand so that it can be done in front of a sold-out crowd once again.
