‘Comparable’ – Analyst Weighs Up Patrick Mahomes – Lamar Jackson Comparisons

Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson did enough to make the NFL Playoffs in 2020. They finished 2nd in the AFC North with an 11-5 record. However, they were knocked out in the Divisional Round at the hands of Josh Allen-led Buffalo Bills.

The Ravens suffered a humbling 17-3 loss at the Bills Stadium as they failed to reach the AFC Championship Game, yet again. Coach John Harbaugh tried to recruit a talented wideout to support Jackson this summer. Their search ended at former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

But the former 2019 NFL MVP will need to up his passing game in order to catch fellow countryman, Patrick Mahomes.

Lamar Jackson needs to work extensively on his passing timing

Former Minnesota Vikings player-turned-analyst Nate Burleson spoke about Lamar Jackson – Patrick Mahomes comparisons ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He said, “No disrespect to Lamar Jackson. I’m just saying over the last couple of seasons, you can look at his numbers rushing on the ground. He’s one of the best running backs in all of football. So if his rush attempts are up, the past attempts will consequently be down. So I don’t need people sitting there saying well, ‘what are they going to do about the passing game?’ Let’s just compare numbers.”

“Over the last two seasons. Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes numbers are comparable, talking about touchdowns, interceptions, so there isn’t a problem with the passing game. There’s a problem with calling the passes when they need them.”

“I said this when Lamar first took the job and played in the playoffs, I said ‘open up the damn offense’ because you’re using him as a running back than getting him to pass more,” Burleson said on the show.

The Baltimore-based franchise is desperate to get back in the AFC Championship Game this year. Coach Harbaugh knows the fans will not be happy with another poor run in the post-season. But they will need their main man to step up and take charge when the season starts on September 3, 2021.
