Days Gone 2 petition hits 50,000 signatures as original director thanks fans

The petition to make a sequel to Days Gone has proven more popular than many expected, but will it be enough to convince Sony?

You might have thought that the rumour Sony has cancelled plans for Days Gone 2 would’ve been met with relative apathy, given the game wasn’t as big a hit as other PlayStation exclusives, but it seems that those that loved Days Gone really loved it and are adamant about wanting more.

Whether the sequel has been cancelled or not still hasn’t been confirmed by Sony but former Sony Bend developers, many of whom left shortly after the game was released, have certainly implied the rumours are true.

As of time of writing, the petition is approaching 55,000 signatures, with a new goal of 75,000. That is a lot for a video game, although it pales in comparison to the millions that more serious subjects can get on the website.

No matter how many people sign up though there’s no guarantee Sony will even acknowledge it, let alone change their mind. Especially as director Jeff Ross has previously implied that the main reason they turned down plans for a sequel is that the original didn’t sell enough.

That fact isn’t going to change no matter how many signatures the petition gets, and neither is the Metacritic score of just 71 – much lower than most other first party Sony games.

Over the weekend, writer John Garvin claimed that Sony is obsessed with getting a good Metacritic score, although he also suggested that fans shouldn’t complain about the lack of a sequel if they didn’t pay full price for the original.

Ross has been more diplomatic, responding to the 50,000 milestone with a tweet thanking fans for their support and including fan-made artwork of Days Gone 2 on PlayStation 5.

‘No matter where this thing ends, I just want you all to know how much your love means to me and members of the team. Days Gone fans are the best fans!’, he said.

Despite Sony’s silence on the issue a PC version of the game is being released next month, which is somewhat surprising given their apparent disinterest in continuing the series.
