Sir Elton John didn’t hold back during his appearance on The One Show last night, leaving presenter Alex Jones stunned after advising his younger self to ‘lay off the cocaine’.
The legendary musician was on the programme to talk about his new single with Rina Sawayama when he left people speechless with the comment.
Sir Elton was speaking to hosts Alex and Michael Ball when he was presented with a question from a viewer – and no-one could have predicted his response.
When asked what advice he would give his younger self, Sir Elton replied: ‘I would say, lay off the cocaine.’
After co-interviewee Rina burst into hysterics, Michael replied: ‘Very sage advice.’
Grinning, the singer added: ‘Absolutely.’
Not knowing quite what to make of it, Alex said: ‘I love it, I love it!’
Viewers found the moment absolutely hilarious, and took to Twitter to share their reactions.
‘Elton John’s advice to his younger self on #TheOneShow at quarter past seven on a Monday evening? “Lay off the cocaine”. Brilliant,’ one said.
‘Monday night prime time tv at its finest,’ another added.
It’s not the first time Sir Elton has surprised people recently. The pop icon has also teased an upcoming collaboration with rock legends Metallica.
The 74-year-old took everyone by surprise as he revealed on his Apple Music show, Rocket Hour: ‘I’ve just done something with Metallica. During this lockdown period.’
The One Show airs on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
