The first photos from Line of Duty series six’s penultimate episode have been released following the agonising cliff-hanger, which saw Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) and Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper) in a tense shootout.

Line of Duty fans think they’ve worked out that Kate survived the stand-off after remembering the now-deleted series six trailer from weeks ago.

However, the first look images see Supt. Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston), DC Chloe Bishop (Shalome Brune-Franklin) and the ice cold DCI Patricia Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin) arriving at the scene, all clearly in shock at what’s before them.

DI Joanne Davidson (Kelly Maconald) was also on hand, last seen cowering as Kate and Ryan shouted at each other before at least one of them pulled the trigger.

Whether she will be there as AC-12 and Carmichael turn up remains to be seen.

Appearing on the Obsessed with Line of Duty podcast hosted by former star Craig Parkinson – who played DI Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan until series three – Vicky McClure responded to that cliff-hanger, as fans fear Kate could be dead.

‘Well you know, every episode of Line of Duty history is terrifying, and Jed is always there to serve the story, and it’s exactly what happened with Dot,’ she said.

‘Dot’s time came when it was time to serve the story and that’s what Jed will always do, so I don’t wanna put anything out there, but Jed serves the story.’

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Line of Duty continues Sunday a 9pm on BBC One.
