Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Piers Morgan and Cardi B react as Derek Chauvin is found guilty of murdering George Floyd
Mariah Carey, Cardi B and Whoopi Goldberg are among the celebrities who have reacted to Derek Chauvin being found guilty of murdering George Floyd.
Chauvin was convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, following a three-week trial in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The disgraced former police officer knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes during an arrest that used excessive force. Floyd desperately called out multiple times: ‘I can’t breathe.’
Reacting to the verdict, Mariah simply tweeted: ‘Hallelujah!!!!!!!!’
Cardi B declared the verdict ‘history’, while Whoopi Goldberg said: ‘Guilty Guilty Guilty… No one wins.. George Floyd is still gone..and finally someone was responsible… Derek Chauvin.’
Piers Morgan shared a photo of Chauvin pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck, and wrote: ‘Police officer Derek Chauvin found guilty of murdering George Floyd. On all counts. Justice is done.’
Good Morning Britain weatherman Alex Beresford said: ‘Guilty Guilty Guilty! Justice Justice Justice!’
Ciara tweeted: ‘Thank you Jesus! I’m in tears. May your legacy live on forever.’
Marvel star Chris Evans weighed in: ‘Justice. Sending love to George Floyd’s family and friends.’
Kerry Washington said: ‘A guilty #verdict. But this fight for justice is not over. We have a lot of work to do. There is more fight ahead of us. But RIGHT NOW please take CARE of yourself. And let’s take care of each other. Prayers and love to the family of #GeorgeFloyd.’

Shonda Rhimes echoed Kerry’s sentiment and said: ‘This verdict does not bring back Mr Floyd. But justice is truth.’
Viola Davis rejoiced: ‘Guilty!!!! As it should be!! Now….Rest In Peace George Floyd. Rest. You and your family have been vindicated.’
The unanimous verdict was read in the late afternoon on Tuesday at Hennepin County Court and live streamed for the world to watch.
In court, Chauvin wore a mask and looked on as the verdict was read.
The 45-year-old pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter charges.
Twelve jurors deliberated for about 10 hours from Monday afternoon after closing arguments until Tuesday afternoon.
Chauvin, who was previously out on bail, was led out of court to jail cells and will be sentenced in eight weeks.
