Michael Keaton has been confirmed to reprise his role as Batman in The Flash, almost 30 years after he last played the role.

The actor, 69, will reprise his role as the Caped Crusader, his agency ICM Partners confirmed to The Wrap this week.

Michael first played Batman in Tim Burton’s 1989 film Batman, and again in its 1992 sequel Batman Returns.

The Flash director Andy Muschietti has revealed that filming is underway already and also shared the official logo on social media.

Michael had been rumoured to be retuning alongside Ezra Miller in the upcoming Warner Bros film, but had previously hinted that he may not do it as he was worried about the coronavirus pandemic,

He told Deadline last month: ‘To be honest with you, you know what worries me more than anything about all this stuff? It’s Covid.

‘I’m more concerned. I keep my eye more on the Covid situation in the UK than anything.

‘That will determine everything, and so that’s why I’m living outside the city here on 17 acres, staying away from everybody, because the Covid thing has got me really concerned.

‘So, that’s my first thing about all projects. I look at it and go, is this thing going to kill me, literally? And you know, if it doesn’t, then we talk.’

Michael had been a fan-favourite as Batman after the success of the 1989 blockbuster of the same name, after his casting had initially caused controverst as he was known for comedies.

However, his performance in the film won over fans thanks to using his comedic background to differentiate his portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman, but quit the role during development of the third instalment after Tim Burton was replaces ss director by Joel Schumacher.

The Flash is scheduled for release on November 4, 2022.
