Power Rankings: Top 5 Teams at Zurich Classic 2021

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is almost here. The post-Masters tournament has been an exciting watch ever since it became a team event in 2017. The 2021 edition of the Zurich Classic will kick-start on April 22 and here are the five notable pairings to keep an eye on.

The Zurich Classic will once again be held at TPC Louisiana in Avondale. The par-72 course is not the easiest of layouts, but the players always like a challenge. The field for the Zurich Classic 2021 is set, and there are only a few hours that stand in between the tournament’s commencement!

Notable pairings at Zurich Classic 2021

As always, the Zurich Classic 2021 will be filled with extremely talented golfers. The best part about the event is that the team game brings out all the intensity. So here are the five major pairings to look out for at New Orleans this year:

5. Bubba Watson and Scottie Scheffler

Bubba Watson teaming up with Scottie Scheffler. A 42-year-old with a 24-year-old. The massive gap in age is what makes this team a serious threat at Zurich Classic 2021. Scheffler’s aggressive approach matched by Watson’s flair will be a joy to watch.

Scheffler is making his tournament debut, while Watson has previously won the event in 2011. It would be interesting to see how the pair performs this year.

4. Collin Morikawa and Matthew Wolff

Collin Morikawa and Matthew Wolff are one of the most exciting pairings at Zurich Classic 2021. The former is on a tremendous run of form, while the latter is currently not on the same pace. Hence, this is the perfect opportunity for Wolff to regain his lost touch on the PGA Tour.

Both players are tournament debutants, but Wolff would be relying on Morikawa to provide the much-needed confidence at TPC Lousiana.

3. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele

It is epic that Cantlay and Schauffele are teaming up for the Zurich Classic 2021. These two golfers have already played in each other’s company before, and that’s what makes them so dangerous.

While this is the first time Patrick Cantlay will be playing without Patrick Reed as his teammate at the Zurich Classic, Xander Schauffele is a strong contender too. This pairing is touted as the best this year, but they aren’t guaranteed the title!

2. Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith

Two in-form golfers pairing up: That’s just what the combination of Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith denotes. Smith won the Zurich Classic inaugural team event in 2017 and looks to repeat such a performance.

Leishman tied for fifth place at the 2021 Masters while Smith landed inside the Top 10. How will this team do at TPC Louisiana this year?

1. Jon Rahm and Ryan Palmer

Who else other than the defending champions? Jon Rahm and Ryan Palmer raced to the title in 2019 and will defend their crown this year. Rahm and Palmer faced each other at the 2021 WGC-Dell Match Play in which the Spaniard won through a playoff round.

So it is safe to say that both golfers have got their competitive juices flowing. The duo might seem like an unlikely pairing, but they got the job done in 2019 and there’s every chance of them repeating the triumph in 2021!
