The 2020-21 PGA Tour schedule is one of the busiest we’ve ever witnessed. The RBC Heritage 2021 just wrapped up on Sunday, but the golfers are already preparing for the next phase of the calendar. The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is right around the corner, so what do we know about the golf course that hosts the tournament?

The Zurich Classic is traditionally held during early-mid spring and always comes after the Masters. The tournament is lucky to be slotted into its original schedule amid the searing pandemic. 

Zurich Classic 2021: Details about the course and layout

The Zurich Classic is one of the events on the PGA Tour that has a dedicated venue for the tournament. The tournament has been on the calendar since 1958 and has been played at different golf courses. However, TPC Louisiana has been the consistent host of the Zurich Classic since 2005. 

When was TPC Louisiana opened? The TPC Louisiana golf course at Avondale was first opened in 2004. Legendary architect Pete Dye designed the golf course in consultation with tour professionals Steve Elkington and Kelly Gibson. 

Par Value and Yardage: Par-72 and 7,341 yards. 

Tournament Record Score: 262 Chip Beck (1988) (individual), 261 Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith (team), and 261 Scott Brown and Kevin Kisner (team). 

Course record: 10-under 62, Ben Martin (2014)

TPC Louisiana hole-by-hole yardage 

TPC Louisiana is a typical par-72 course filled with various challenges in the form of bunkers and water hazards. The layout comprises a few short par-4 holes, but it all evens out with the daunting par-5s. In fact, the most challenging hole in the golf course is the par-5 18th.

TPC Louisiana has witnessed some terrific endings to the Zurich Classic over the years. The tournament gained more popularity after it became a team event in 2017. 

The Zurich Classic did not take place in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, it is back in 2021, and 2019 winners Ryan Palmer and Jon Rahm will be defending their titles this time.
