Emily Atack’s mum Kate Robbins has celebrated joining the cast of After Life season three on Netflix with Ricky Gervais.

The 58-year-old actress posted a socially-distanced selfie with the comedian on Instagram to announce the news.

While details of her role have yet to be confirmed, Kate confirmed that she’d completed her first day of filming on the hit comedy drama.

‘I’m so pleased to announce I’ve joined the amazing cast of #Afterlife3,’ she wrote. ‘First day filming with @rickygervais and what a laugh it was!’

Kate is known for her roles in shows such as Crossroads, Holby City and Citizen Khan. She is also a singer, and found fame in the 80s with the single More Than in Love.

It comes as production on the show got underway this week. Ricky looked delighted to be back filming this year and gave fans something to get excited about by sharing a first-look picture.

After Life follows a man called Tony Johnson, played by Ricky, who is struggling to cope with the death of his wife, played by Kerry Godliman.

Ricky and Kerry are back for the new episodes, while the supporting cast will also hopefully include the likes of Joe Wilkinson, Roisin Conaty, Mandeep Dhillon and Penelope Wilton. Ashley Jensen, Tom Basden, Jo Hartley and Tony Way are also expected to be back.

Kate will be one of the new faces in the show’s third season, too.

Her daughter Emily, who is best known for starring in The Inbetweeners and I’m A Celebrity in 2018, has spoken candidly about her relationship with Kate in the past.

The actress, 31, previously reflected on the difficult time and how her childhood came ‘crashing down’.

Kate and Emily’s dad Keith Atack split when she was a teenager, with the star revealing how she ‘stopped listening’ to her parents and did what she wanted following their divorce.

After Life seasons one and two are available to watch on Netflix.
