Collin Morikawa and Matthew Wolff Looking to “Feed Off Each Other’s Energy” at Zurich Classic 2021
The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is once again back after getting canceled in 2020. The limelight is on defending champions Jon Rahm and Ryan Palmer, but the tournament will see two exciting debutants Collin Morikawa and Matthew Wolff team up at TPC Louisiana this year.
Wolff and Morikawa are currently two of the most talented youngsters on the PGA Tour. The former is 22-years-old, while Morikawa, the 2020 PGA Championship winner, is 24. They have never played at the Zurich Classic team event before, but there is plenty of hype surrounding this duo.
Morikawa is coming off a T7 finish at the RBC Heritage 2021, while Wolff took a break from golf after getting disqualified from the 2021 Masters. While Morikawa is the one on a better run of form, both players are looking to feed off each other’s energy at Zurich Classic 2021.
Collin Morikawa and Matthew Wolff are looking to create an impact at Zurich Classic
Morikawa and Wolff might be tournament debutants, but the pandemic ruined their chance of competing last year. The pair announced they were teaming up for the Zurich Classic 2020, but the vision has been fulfilled a year later.
“Yeah, I mean I think it’s been a long time in the making and when Collin came to me and asked me if I wanted to play on the team I immediately said, yes. I was like, That sounds amazing, and I’ve been playing with him for so long and you kind of just have to soak it in a little bit,” Matthew Wolff said.
Matthew Wolff brought back the good times from the past. Wolff and Morikawa have known each other since high school, have played golf together at the collegiate level, and they’re now teaming up for a reputed PGA Tour event.
“No, Matt’s an awesome guy, we feed off each other’s energy, you guys have seen it, when we have played with each other, we have had a few groupings. Obviously 3M we played both really well at the end, Matt making eagle on the last hole. But I think that’s what’s great, you got to have good chemistry out here and I think we really do,” Morikawa mentioned.
The Zurich Classic begins on April 22 and the Morikawa-Wolff pairing is expected to deliver big. Collin Morikawa took a quick detour after his RBC Heritage finish, but is ready and focused for Zurich Classic 2021.
