Great British Sewing Bee viewers ‘obsessed’ as grime fan Cathryn dances to Stormzy’s Vossi Bop with Joe Lycett
The Great British Sewing Bee viewers were left in hysterics as older contestant Cathryn revealed herself to be a grime fan – before showing off her dance moves to Stormzy’s Vossi Bop.
Tonight’s episode saw our sewers take a stab at Summer Week, with Esme and Patrick setting the challenge of creating paperbag shorts, cocktail outfits and button-down sun dresses.
At one point, presenter Joe Lycett decided to get to know Cathryn a little better as she busied herself at her machine but he wasn’t ready for the revelation.
‘What do you do to let yourself go normally, Catherine?’ an inquisitive Joe pressed.
She replied: ‘At home? Dance like nobody’s watching. I like a little bit of grime. I do.’
Testing her surprising claim, Joe asked: ‘Do you like Stormzy?’
He clearly hit the right spot as Cathryn’s face lit up as she admitted: ‘I think he’s wonderful. Vossi Bop, Joe.’
She then proceeded to get up and demonstrate exactly how to execute the perfect Vossi Bop and, frankly, she had Joe beat as he delivered some questionable moves.
‘My son despairs of me you know, he’s 23 and he finds me so embarrassing,’ Cathryn said.
Well, viewers happen to think Cathryn’s just as wonderful as Stormzy and declared her a legend.
Reacting to the heartwarming moment, one Sewing Bee viewer tweeted: ‘How can I become best friends with Catherine [sic]??’
‘Obsessed with Cathryn,’ another declared as one other viewer agreed: ‘Cathryn is my new favourite.’
Impressed with her dance moves, one cheered: ‘Catherine & Grime wow you go girl,’ while another viewer said: ‘Am girl crushing on Catherine!’
‘Grannies who Grime. Love it,’ another laughed.
Basically, thanks for brightening Hump Day, Cathryn!
The Great British Sewing Bee continues next Wednesday at 9pm and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
