It looks as though the hotly-anticipated Game Of Thrones prequel House Of The Dragon has started filming in Cornwall.

Two months after it was announced production on the first spin-off would begin this year, locals have spotted crew members assembling a stone archway in the English countryside.

Lorries with the Warner Bros logo branded on them were also seen at Penhale Camp, near Holywell, Newquay on Tuesday, however, it remains uncertain as to whether the project is linked to the long-awaited show.

It was previously reported that shooting on House of the Dragon would also take place at Leavesden Studios in Watford. Croatia and Morocco are also said to feature as locations.

House Of The Dragon is based centuries before the events of Game Of Thrones and will follow the reign of the Targaryen family, one of the main Royal houses that united the Seven Kingdoms later known as Westeros.

It’s the first of several spin-offs from the fantasy epic and is loosely based on George RR Martin’s novella Fire & Blood.

The series already boasts of a star-studded cast, including Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower.

It was recently revealed that The Serpent star Fabien Frankel will portray Ser Criston Cole, who Martin described as only having ‘his honor and his skill with sword and lance’.

Game Of Thrones fans will have to sit tight for House Of The Dragon though as HBO revealed its being slated for release in 2022.

HBO boss Casey Bloys teased what’s to come with the upcoming projects.

‘[George RR Martin’s] got a lot of road maps in terms of history,’ he said. ‘So one of the great things about House of the Dragon is that it’s an established history that leads you to Game of Thrones the show, and there is a lot of little branches. There is a lot of opportunities and stories to tell.’

HBO declined to comment when approached by Metro.co.uk.

House Of The Dragon is expected to arrive on HBO in 2022.
