“I’m Not Interested in Gervonta Davis”- Josh Taylor Lashes Out at Tank’s Upcoming Super Lightweight Title Fight
The 2-division champion Gervonta Davis will challenge the undefeated Mario Barrios for his WBA ‘regular’ super lightweight title on June 26th, with the dream to become a 3-weight titleholder.
However, it will also rake up the number of challenges for ‘Tank’, subsequently increasing his fighting radar. If Davis claims the win over Barrios, a fight with WBA super lightweight champion Josh Taylor would also become viable. While the Baltimore native would then have a long list of opponents, he may not allure Taylor to step up.
The UK’s undefeated champion Josh Taylor will collide against Jose Ramirez in a super lightweight unification clash on May 22nd.
Hence, he has his sole focus on that fight. Meanwhile, when asked about Gervonta Davis’ entry into the division, he appeared uninterested.
While in conversation with Michael Benson, ‘The Tartan Tornado’ opened up about several scenarios, including Gervonta Davis vs Mario Barrios for the WBA ‘regular’ title.
“I’m not interested in Gervonta Davis. I’m really not interested and I’m not thinking about them at all. For this belt, for this ‘Mickey Mouse’ belt, I’m not interested,” said Josh Taylor.

Taylor has walked over several elite boxers to keep the top spot at 140 lbs. But until he overpowers Jose Ramirez, he wouldn’t be the absolute best.
As both men will collide for all the super lightweight belts, newcomers in the division like Gervonta Davis can intensify the tale.

Despite moving up to 140 lbs, ‘Tank’ is yet to test himself against the other bigwigs at 135. Not unlike him, there are several undefeated champions in Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, and Devin Haney. A few days ago, Davis and Garcia touted a possible matchup at 135.
However, it faded away with time and both men have received their respective opponents in Mario Barrios and Javier Fortuna.
Nonetheless, they can meet again at the lightweight division, with more wins in their records. They are still to hit their prime and considering that Davis’ entry into the super lightweight division will open the door for umpteen interesting clashes.
