Imelda May has unveiled the music video for her powerful new single, Made To Love, and it only makes sense that she’s included two of the country’s more foremost female activists.

The single Made To Love is a celebratory song about love in all its shapes, sizes and guises, and features Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood on the guitars, as well as the vocals of activist and author Gina Martin and fellow activist, lawyer and author Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu.

Imelda formed a bond with Dr Shola and Gina when they met at an International Women’s Day event with Annie Lennox and, after hearing them speak, the singer knew she had to have the inspiring women be part of her musical journey.

Imelda said of the single: ‘From the day we’re born we are learning. We soak up all positives and negatives that we’re fed. Our behaviours are learnt.

‘As an adult to discover all emotions stem from Love and fear was a revelation to me. I want to live this one life in Love and that takes courage and determination. It takes action.’

She continued: ‘I wrote this song from the perspective of Love itself as a living thing and how much it has suffered for simply being. It frightens some with the power of it’s simplicity, purity, truth and breathtaking beauty. It puts a mirror to us and only through it can we see our true ourselves.

‘I believe in Love. I believe in fighting for Love. I believe that we are made to Love.’

‘I wanted this to be that song where, if you’re at a festival or a live gig, you can just throw your arms round that person beside you, can all dance around, sing together and feel connected. And I wanted that moment on the album,’ Imelda added.

The musician’s sixth album 11 Past The Hour, which was released last Friday, also features Noel Gallagher and Miles Kane.

It’s been a few years since fans have had an album from Imelda, with Life Love Flesh Blood, released in 2017.
