Jimmie Johnson Reacts to Alex Bowman’s First NASCAR Cup Win in the Iconic No. 48 Car

Jimmie Johnson can finally rest easy, knowing that his legacy is in good hands. For the first time in two decades, the #48 Hendrick Motorsports car does not have Johnson behind the wheel. Instead, Alex Bowman succeeded Johnson as the #48 driver and he finally delivered at Richmond.

After a sluggish start to his 2021 season, Bowman picked up a 3rd place at Atlanta. Unfortunately, he dropped back down again at Bristol and Martinsville, before fate rewarded him with the Richmond win. Needless to say, predecessor Jimmie Johnson was thrilled to see the #48 Hendrick car back where it belonged, in Victory Lane.

In his NASCAR career, Jimmie Johnson has accrued 83 career wins. In addition to that, he also have 374 Top 10 finishes and 36 poles. However, that all culminates in seven NASCAR Cup Series titles, including five consecutive title triumphs. Sadly, that meant little to anybody as he entered into his next walk of life in the IndyCar Series for the 2021 season.

Now in 2021, Johnson has left his NASCAR life behind him and is looking ahead to the future. To be precise, he has officially kicked off his IndyCar career with Chip Ganassi Racing. Admittedly, he has not had the best of debuts, finishing 19th fastest at Alabama. The 45-year-old was done in after he suffered an early spin at Barber Motorsports Park and had to claw his way back up.

However, that was not the end of the action, as he was in the thick of things in the early stages. Ahead of him on the track, there was pretty heavy contact.

Despite this, Johnson displayed superior driving skills to avoid the worst of the crash and come out relatively unscathed. He had a few more hairy moments but Johnson managed to survive all of them
