New Call Of Duty: Warzone season 3 update is a whopping 25GB

As Warzone celebrates 100 million players the only thing bigger than the userbase is the patch needed to play season 3 tomorrow.

It’s the end of season 2 of Call Of Duty: Warzone tonight, with the whole battle royale map expected to be destroyed in nuclear fire – assuming you’ve got enough space on your hard drive to see it.

The amount of space Call Of Duty takes up on a hard drive has been an issue for months now, with Activision recently admitting that it’s no longer possible to fit the whole of Black Ops Cold War onto a standard PlayStation 4 hard drive.

That problem is only going to get worse if you want to start playing season 3 tomorrow though, as to upgrade to version 1.36 requires roughly 25GB of hard drive space, regardless of the format.

The end of season 2, referred to as Operation Rapid Sunder, will take place at 8pm BST tonight, April 21, and while some kind of nuclear event is expected it’s also believed that this will end with the map turning into a 1980s version of Verdansk – although how exactly that happens is a mystery.

Season 3 is due to start tomorrow, with the update informing you that you’ll have to wait until 5am BST on Thursday before you can install it.

The new season debuts just as Activision announced that Warzone, which is free-to-play, now has over 100 million players.

It’s achieved that just a few weeks after its first anniversary and has quickly become one of the most popular battle royale games in the world.

By comparison, Apex Legends took twice as long to reach the same milestone, after announcing that it had also reached the 100 million milestone last week.

That means that while Apex Legends is currently ahead by a nose Warzone is likely to quickly take over and become second only to Fortnite.
