The Chase viewers were quick to spot an amazing Mamma Mia-related connection between the names of the players on the show… and the winner did indeed take it all.

Aside from the intense drama of the ITV gameshow, one of the elements of The Chase that fans love is when the names of the contestants who have been put on a team are linked in some way (which, let’s face it, has to be done on purpose).

From forming the names of famous comedians to former UK prime ministers, we, the Chasers and presenter Bradley Walsh have seen it all.

But the latest name of the game had four players sitting next to each other in a sequence that referenced the Mamma Mia musical based on the songs of Swedish pop group Abba.

From left to right, the contestants were named: Donna, Samantha, Bill and Harry.

As any fan of Mamma Mia (ie any person with good taste) will be able to tell you, the names of four of the main characters in Mamma Mia are Donna, Sam, Bill and Harry, as played by Meryl Streep, Piers Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard and Colin Firth in the film adaptation.

The producers of The Chase took a chance – and it paid off!

Several viewers expressed their amazement when they saw the names pop up on screen.

‘Mamma Mia 3 came out earlier than I expected,’ one person tweeted.

‘Donna, Harry and Bill? Mamma Mia!’ another remarked.

Not only did the players make a splash among The Chase’s TV audience, but they also ended up walking away with a whole lot of money, money, money.

After Donna, Samantha and Bill took on Paul Sinha, aka ‘The Sinnerman’, in the final chase, their strong team effort resulted in them winning a hefty £16,000, with each receiving just over £5,300 each. What a win!

During a recent episode of The Chase, Bradley was left stunned when a player revealed their famous past as a musician.

After initially introducing himself as an IT manager, contestant Paul later shared that he used to be in a punk band called The Fall, who Bradley remembered fondly.

The Chase next airs at 5pm on ITV and is available to watch on ITV Player.
