The Repair Shop made sure there wasn’t a dry eye in the house this week after fixing an engagement ring that ‘brought a woman’s gran and grandad back together’.

Michelle brought the broken ring into the workshop in the hope that goldsmith Richard Talent could work his magic on the family heirloom, which had been in the family for more than 70 years.

The ring had been kept in a teapot by her grandmother Muriel for years after breaking, and was discovered by Michelle and family following her death aged 99.

Her grandfather Wilfred had died in 1991, and the ring symbolised the couples’ love for each other.

‘The ring for me is the start of our timeline. It holds all that history from the day they got engaged,’ she told Richard and host Jay Blades.

‘I’d love to get it mended for my gran because she was so special.’

When it came time to reveal the fixed piece, Michelle immediately broke down in tears as she saw the piece fully restored, kissing it like her grandmother used to.

Even Richard and Jay couldn’t help but feel touched at the emotional reaction, with Jay later telling the jeweller: ‘That was special.’

‘Having those two ends meet again is like my gran and my granddad meeting again,’ Michelle told the cameras.

‘I just can’t wait to show everyone and continue to tell their love story, because they adored each other and it will bring back all those wonderful memories of my gran and my granddad and that brings me so much joy.’

Viewers ended up in tears at the stunning fix, praising Richard for his work and shocked at how emotional they had become.

It was tears all round in the workshop this week, with a number of precious family heirlooms being fixed back to their former glory.

Later on in the episode, toymakers Amanda and Julie helped revive a toy donkey, which belonged to a woman’s twin brother before he tragically died aged 21.

Connecting the donkey to her brother, as he used it as a child as a comforter, she was left in tears as they were able to fix the toy to as good as new – allowing her to ‘keep her brother close’ as a result.

The Repair Shop airs Wednesdays at 8pm on BBC One.
