‘Writing Was on the Wall’ – Kevin Love Reveals Reaction to LeBron James Leaving the Cavaliers in 2018
LeBron James is the greatest player to ever don a Cleveland Cavaliers jersey. The Akron native entered the NBA in 2003 and went number one overall to the Cavaliers, his home team. It was too perfect a narrative, and James began working on breaking the Cleveland Curse. The city hadn’t won a major sports championship for 52 years by 2016. With two stints in Cleveland and almost 13 years after going to the Cavs, LeBron brought a title back home, fulfilling his promise.
Kevin Love talks about LeBron James’ departure
James left the Cavaliers for the second time in 2018, and Cleveland Cavaliers player Kevin Love recently spoke to USA Today about LeBron’s departure. He noted that there were many, including himself, within the team that knew of Bron’s desire to leave. James had kept his promise to Cleveland and won a championship, so there wasn’t much left to accomplish. Love said that James needed to start a new chapter in his career, similar to when he left for Miami.
Love said, “I mean, it was definitely something that was kind of being said underneath people’s breath. I felt like I had an idea. Channing Frye and I were super close, we had talked about it. It was just the next chapter for him, we felt like that was somewhere. He obviously started his career in Cleveland. (He) had gone to Miami, needed a different look, played with two other great superstars and great pieces on that team.”
James starting a new chapter in his career
After his successful stint in Miami, where he won two consecutive NBA championships and three consecutive NBA MVP titles, James returned to Cleveland to win a title. What he did in that four-year stint was nothing short of spectacular because he went to four NBA Finals. Love said he was happy for James and glad that he had found happiness in his new chapter.
Love said, “Came back to Cleveland, he stayed true to his promise like I mentioned, and he went to four straight finals with Cleveland, which was super special. Then he was just figuring out what was the next chapter, and that’s worked out for him in a real special way. So I’m happy for him, I’m happy for his family. But to answer that question, yeah, we did feel like the writing was on the wall.”
LeBron James was able to return to Cleveland and win an NBA championship in 2016. Many fans consider the 2016 NBA Finals to be the greatest ever. LeBron and the Cavaliers were down 3-1 to the Golden State Warriors. However, James and the team were able to rally and win three straight games to come back and win the title.
