‘I Got a Little Carried Away’ – Oscar De La Hoya Apologises for Controversial Commentary at the Jake Paul vs. Ben Askren Event
Jake Paul’s knockout victory over Ben Askren last weekend sent the boxing world into a frenzy. People all over the world spoke about the unique event, with many criticizing it. However, the most talked-about aspect of the event was Oscar De La Hoya and his entertaining commentary.
The former boxing champion commentated on the Frank Mir vs. Steve Cunningham bout. The ‘Golden Boy’ made some surprising calls and even showed his bias towards Cunningham. This drew massive backlash from fans as well as Frank Mir. However, he has now apologized for his commentary.
The boxer turned promoter spoke to the DAZN boxing show, and Michael Benson from TalkSPORT was quick to pick it up. De La Hoya said, “I got a little into it, started having a couple drinks. Then they told me, ‘Why don’t you go and commentate?’ I got a little carried away and I apologise. But it’s all good. I’m back in beast mode. It’s on, baby.”

These comments from De La Hoya showed that he acknowledged his mistake. Moreover, it revealed that he was never meant to be commentating on the fight. Thus, he was not prepared and let his emotions get the better of him.
