‘I’ve Offered Him a Title Fight!’- Kamaru Usman Opens up on Conor McGregor’s Comments

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman spoke out to TMZ ahead of his title fight rematch against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261. Chiefly, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is on the warpath to become the greatest welterweight champion of all time. He’s fresh off a TKO win at UFC 258 over Gilbert Burns, the former top contender in the division.

With Usman’s name as the champion constantly growing, a fighter who occasionally fights in his division potentially crosses his path in Conor McGregor. Fans have wondered how McGregor will fare against Usman should they scrap after McGregor’s victory over Donald Cerrone. What’s more, a win over the sitting welterweight champion would make McGregor the first three-division champion and top pound-for-pound fighter.

After being asked about certain comments made about Usman’s drawing power versus McGregor, the welterweight champion spoke out. “Conor doesn’t need that green panty night, you know. That’s the thing with me, who makes more sense? I understand what he saying but mine actually makes more sense. You fight with me, that’s greens. You fight for the title, you ask for, you demand a lot more money and that’s why I stated that.”

Additionally, Kamaru Usman revealed that McGregor was ducking a fight against him and made sure to extend a verbal offer. Given the pay-per-view upside, it makes sense why Kamaru Usman will be looking to fight the Irishman. Moreover, he shared his candid views on what a fight between both the welterweight fighters will look like.

“Conor knows he doesn’t want those problems. I’ve offered him a title fight. I’ve had an interview with you and I told you I’m giving Conor the shot, Conor you have the shot if you want it. Conor doesn’t want it. At the end of the day, Conor won’t way say my name…These guys recognize what’s happening.”

[A fight with McGregor] “It’s so bad that it’s not something I even entertain in my mind anymore. That’s just how savage a beating that would be. It’s almost a waste of brain power what I would do to him.”

Regardless if Conor McGregor happens to be a future opponent, both men have work to do in their respective divisions. Usman’s work assignment comes this Saturday night in the form of an in-shape and hungry ‘Gamebred’ fighter. Jorge Masvidal will be hoping Usman is overlooking him as the crafty veteran plots some moves for Fight Night.
