Peter Andre tried and failed at attempting to land a pun as he joined BBC Breakfast this morning, with presenter Naga Munchetty rubbing salt in the wound.

The Mysterious Girl singer joined the programme to discuss his two roles in the upcoming musical stage production of Grease, which will see him tour the country as Teen Angel and Vince Fontaine.

Moments into his interview, Peter referred to Greece’s current travel ban as he cracked a joke.

‘The funny thing is we’re talking about Grease and we can’t even fly there, which is interesting, so what an interesting time,’ he said.

Noting the lack of laughter, Peter continued: ‘I thought that was a bit of a Greek joke but no one actually laughed.’

‘Sorry, we’re just clearing away the tumbleweed for you,’ Naga savagely responded, before cracking up.

Peter quickly moved the conversation on.

‘No, it’s going to be fantastic bringing that back to the stage and I think people want to get out to the theatre,’ he continued.

‘The theatres have taken a massive hit as you can imagine, including all the people who work on lights, the sound, production, crew. There are so many people that are aching to get back on stage.’

Luckily though, Spain, Portugal and Greece are hoping to be able to welcome back British tourists this summer due to the success of the UK’s vaccine roll-out.

The countries – some of Europe’s most popular holiday destinations – are pushing for nations who have vaccinated large numbers of their populations to be exempt from strict EU rules banning entry, according to reports.

Ministers are also thought to be scrambling to put in place a Covid vaccine passport scheme in time for foreign travel to restart, which could be as early as May 17.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays from 6am on BBC One.
