Andy Ruiz Jr. Urges Young Fighters to Not Repeat the Mistakes He Did

Andy Ruiz Jr. will finally make his return to the ring after almost 17-months out of the sport. The former unified heavyweight champion will face Chris Arreola with a point to prove. And as he prepares to get the respect he craves, he has given his advice to younger fighters.

The first Mexican-American heavyweight champion of the world will face his former training partner in a PPV event on May 1. Ruiz Jr. will go into the bout as the favorite, but still has a lot to prove because of his mistakes in his underwhelming performance in the Joshua rematch at Clash On The Dunes’.

The 28-2 boxer has now given younger fighters his advice to stop them from finding themselves in the same situation. He spoke to the Premier Boxing Champions YouTube Channel and said, “I would want to tell them to stay disciplined, you know, stay focussed, not have the wrong crowd around you. Have the right people, that want the best intention for you, you know.”

‘The Destroyer’ then added, “And once you get where you want to get, stay on the right path, don’t do the same mistakes that I’ve done.”

Why is Andy Ruiz Jr. advising younger fighters not to make the same mistakes?

From his comments, it is clear to see that the former champion has many regrets about how his career has progressed. The hard-hitting fighter has since changed his ways and embarked on an incredible body transformation. However, why is he asking younger fighters to stay disciplined?

Ruiz Jr. faced a lot of criticism for his weight in the second fight against Joshua. The Mexican-American fighter went into the bout almost 30 pounds heavier than the first fight against ‘AJ’ and, as a result, never hurt the Englishman.

After that loss, Ruiz Jr. knew he would have to work his way back to the top from scratch. And while he seems to be up for the task, it will be a long journey back to the summit of the division for ‘The Destroyer’. Thus, it is no surprise why Ruiz Jr. is calling on fighters to be disciplined, especially when they reach their goal.

What do you make of this advice from Andy Ruiz Jr.? Do you think the champion has what it takes to get back to the top of the division?
